WeWatt Premium Kiosk Bikes & Smart Solar Benches
Empowering Sustainable Energy Solutions at Newcastle University
Project Overview
We had the pleasure of partnering with Newcastle University to enhance their sustainability initiatives through our innovative renewable energy solutions. The project involved the installation of WeWatt Kiosk Bikes and Smart Solar Benches across two of the University’s famous campuses: Callaghan (Newcastle) and Ourimbah (Central Coast). Our goal was to provide sustainable, interactive installations that support energy production and promote a healthier, eco-conscious lifestyle among students and staff.
Project Scope and Objectives
Newcastle University sought to integrate renewable energy solutions into its infrastructure to align with its commitment to sustainability. With this project, they aimed to:
- Encourage physical activity and wellness among students.
- Provide convenient charging stations powered by green energy.
- Raise awareness about the importance of renewable energy through interactive experiences.
The WeWatt Kiosk Bikes and Smart Solar Benches were ideal solutions for meeting this objective, combining user-driven energy generation with accessible, eco-friendly charging options.
Installation Details
We executed a comprehensive installation plan across two Campuses:
WeWatt Kiosk Bikes
Callaghan Campus:
Auchmuty Library: We installed three WeWatt Kiosk Bikes in a linear setup within the library. This setup allows students to stay active while studying, offering a convenient way to recharge their devices through sustainable energy.
Brennan Room (Near the Food Courts): We set up three bikes in round table setup. This dynamic setting provided students with a place to gather, recharge, and generate power through physical activity.
Central Coast Campus (Ourimbah Library):
Three WeWatt Kiosk Bikes were installed within the Ourimbah Library for easy access. Positioned to optimise convenience, these bikes empower students to create their own energy while charging their devices and studying/reading.
Smart Solar Benches
We installed Smart Solar Benches across various outdoor areas on both the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses. These benches are equipped to harness solar power, offering a renewable source for device charging while providing comfortable seating for students and faculty members.
Benefits and Impact
The introduction of the WeWatt Kiosk Bikes and Smart Solar Benches at Newcastle University has created multiple positive outcomes:
- Environmental Impact: These installations enable students to charge their devices without relying on traditional power sources, also reducing the carbon footprint.
- Health and Wellness: The Kiosk Bikes promote a unique blend of physical activity and productivity and encourage students to integrate movement into their daily routines.
- Educational Value: By using these renewable energy installations, students gain a firsthand understanding of sustainable technology, reinforcing the importance of renewable energy in a hands-on way.
Feedback and Future Prospects
The response from students and staff at Newcastle University has been incredibly positive. The Bikes and benches have become popular and valued for their practical use and as a reminder of the university’s commitment to sustainability.
This project has set a strong example for similar initiatives at other schools and universities. We’re thrilled to see the positive impact these installations continue to have and remain dedicated to offering eco-friendly energy solutions that inspire and support communities.
