At Eco Renewable Energy, we are dedicated to delivering sustainable, innovative solutions that engage communities. In early 2017, we started working with a forward-thinking school that sought to integrate more sustainability into their campus and provide students with an engaging, environmentally-conscious activity. We worked with them to install our WeWatt bike desks, a product designed to generate renewable energy while encouraging physical activity.

Challenges

The school wanted to enhance their sustainability efforts and promote environmental awareness among students, but they were struggling to find engaging, practical solutions that would integrate into their daily campus activities. They were also looking for ways to combine exercise with technology, allowing students to interact with sustainable practices in a fun and meaningful way.

Furthermore, the school needed a solution that would encourage collaboration among students and staff, creating an environment where sustainability became a shared focus for the entire community.

Solution

We provided an interactive WeWatt recharging bike-desk to Portland Secondary College. These innovative bike-desks allow students to cycle while generating energy, which is then used to recharge their devices. This integration of renewable energy, exercise, and technology has been an exciting and engaging addition to the school’s senior student area.

We also supplied a sustainable roundtable in a collaborative area. This serves as a station where students and teachers can gather, charge their devices, and work together in a social, eco-friendly setting. It’s a space designed to foster collaboration and interaction, reinforcing the school’s commitment to sustainability in an interactive way.

Due to the success of the initial setup, the school decided to purchase two additional WeWatt bikes, opting for the Kiosk model to extend their sustainability initiatives even further.

Results 

The WeWatt bike-desks have made a significant impact at the school. Students now regularly use the bikes to charge their devices while getting exercise, embracing both the environment and health of the products. The bikes have not only provided a practical solution to energy generation but have also created an engaging way for students to participate in sustainability efforts actively.

The sustainable round-table has become a busy, interactive space where students and teachers alike gather to recharge their devices, collaborate on projects, and engage in discussions about sustainability. This has strengthened the sense of community within the school and contributed to a culture of sustainability.

Conclusion

We are thrilled to see how our WeWatt bikes have become an integral part of the school’s commitment to sustainability. Not only have we helped the school reduce its environmental footprint, but we’ve also provided a space for students and staff to engage with renewable energy in a fun and meaningful way.
